Gritt Robotics is building intelligent robotic systems that combine hardware and AI to automate labor-intensive tasks on construction sites, starting with large-scale solar installations. The company deploys autonomous systems that operate in harsh outdoor environments and is backed by leading venture firms including Obvious Ventures, Union Square Ventures, and First Round Capital. As Hardware Test Engineer, you will own the complete test strategy and execution to ensure Gritt's hardware survives years of real-world deployment on job sites. You'll work in the yard behind the office where robots operate in genuine sun, wind, dust, and temperature extremes, complemented by lab-based and life-cycle testing. Key responsibilities include: - Developing end-to-end test strategy by translating design requirements into comprehensive test plans for components, subassemblies, and fully integrated robots - Running functional, environmental, and life-cycle testing (dust, heat, vibration, repeated cycling) to generate empirical data - Leading root-cause investigations on hardware failures through teardowns and data analysis, working directly with the hardware team - Testing across real-world production conditions the robot must handle, from new hardware to varying site and weather conditions - Developing, documenting, and enforcing safety procedures for testing heavy hardware around people and equipment - Producing clear, data-driven test reports with full traceability from requirements through execution and results - Investigating field incidents and feeding structured findings back to prevent recurrence You'll need a B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, EE, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent; 3+ years testing hardware on real electromechanical or robotic systems; a rigorous, data-driven approach with clear test planning and quantitative acceptance criteria; sound safety judgment for hands-on work with heavy machinery outdoors; and the ability to take ownership with light supervision in ambiguous, ground-up environments.
