Oura is seeking a Hardware Signal Quality Test Engineer to establish and grow sensor validation capability at its San Francisco office. This is a hands-on role focused on hardware validation for Oura Ring sensors and next-generation products.
Key responsibilities include executing sensor validation cycles and test activities to evaluate signal quality across motion, optical, electrical, and thermal domains. You will contribute to test planning, adapt test methods and tools, and conduct both lab-based and field testing. The role involves analyzing sensor data using Python and data-analysis methods to identify patterns and extract actionable insights. You'll investigate unexpected behavior, support root-cause analysis, and deliver clear, data-driven reports to cross-functional stakeholders including hardware, firmware, algorithms, and product-quality teams.
You will help establish repeatable sensor-validation practices at the San Francisco site, contributing to improvements in test capabilities, documentation, automation, and reporting. Collaboration is central: you'll work closely with testing teams, Science, Hardware Engineering, Firmware and Embedded Software Engineering, and Product Quality—both locally and across global time zones.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience), plus 3+ years of hands-on experience in sensor testing, hardware validation, laboratory measurement, or research. You must have working experience with Python for data analysis and automation, basic familiarity with analog/digital signal analysis, and a solid understanding of electronics, sensors, or embedded systems. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to take ownership of scoped work are essential. Willingness to travel to Oura sites and contract manufacturing facilities is required.
Preferred experience includes knowledge of human physiology and physiological signals, electronics and test fixture implementation, hardware testing and debugging with software interfaces, and familiarity with regulatory testing for medical or wearable devices.
