Applied Intuition is seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer to lead the deployment and optimization of autonomous systems for mining and construction vehicles. In this role, you will serve as the technical subject matter expert for Applied's autonomous mining platform, working directly with hardware engineers, technicians, operators, and safety drivers both at the Sunnyvale headquarters and on-site at customer locations.
Key responsibilities include owning the end-to-end deployment of integrated autonomous systems onto mining vehicles, managing fleet reliability, and serving as the first line of triage for system issues at customer sites. You will design and build test benches to validate mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software systems; lead vehicles from build-out through delivery and shakedown testing; and develop comprehensive documentation for vehicle integration procedures. Your work will involve troubleshooting complex vehicle systems, performing root cause analysis, and minimizing downtime while maintaining safety standards.
You will also provide vehicle integration support across the organization by designing, prototyping, and installing proof-of-concept systems and sensors under evaluation. This is a hands-on role requiring independent problem-solving on dynamically evolving technical challenges.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in mechanical, electrical, or related field, plus 5+ years of technical experience in mechanical, electrical, computer, mining, or construction industries. You should have experience with autonomous vehicle components (LiDAR, radar, cameras), low-volume manufacturing in off-road industries, and the ability to read electrical schematics and datasheets. Proficiency with shop equipment, 3D printers, automotive diagnostic tools, and CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) is essential. Experience with CNC machining, metalworking, welding, and automotive repair/maintenance is required.
Nice-to-have skills include familiarity with Python or other programming languages, ROS, Linux OS, and microcontroller/microprocessor programming.
