As a Hardware Engineer Program Manager - Compliance, you will lead certification and regulatory efforts for Verkada's next-generation safety and security products. This role bridges hardware engineering, mechanical engineering, software, product management, supply chain, and legal teams to navigate the new product introduction process from concept through mass production and global shipping.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading certification efforts for life safety and security products
- Working directly with RF/EMC labs and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) such as TUV, UL, and Intertek to test and certify products to applicable standards
- Collaborating with Product, Hardware, and Software teams to translate regulatory standards into clear product requirements and test plans supporting global market access
- Driving compliance deliverables: defining key requirements, developing test plans, owning technical documentation, and coordinating testing efforts with external labs and regulatory bodies
- Steering new hardware products through growing sets of global compliance requirements
The role requires 5 days per week on-site presence at the San Mateo, CA office. Up to 10% domestic travel is expected.
Requirements:
- BS in Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience certifying electronic end devices for RF, EMC, and Safety
- Experience working with NRTLs (Intertek, UL, etc.) to coordinate testing and obtain certifications
- Strong track record developing, manufacturing, and shipping new electronic products
- Excellent organizational skills and written/verbal communication
- Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced startup environment
- Ability to commute 5 days per week in-office
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with overseas vendors and international supply chains
- Experience with safety standards including UL 2610, UL 864, EN 50131
- Experience obtaining cybersecurity certifications including EU Radio Equipment Directive, ER 01, and Cyber Resiliency Act
