Generalist is building embodied foundation models and general-purpose robots that can intelligently interact with the physical world. As a Hardware Engineer (Electrical), you will own the complete electrical systems lifecycle for robot hardware: from concept and schematic design through PCB layout, fabrication, bring-up, validation, and scaled production. You'll design and architect sensing and motor control electronics for robot systems that operate with low latency, high fidelity, and robustness in challenging industrial environments. This includes multi-sensor architectures interfacing with latest-generation SoCs, complex power delivery systems with multiple sources (802.3bt, USB-C PD, LiPo), battery charging and power path management within tight thermal and spatial budgets, and embedded firmware development in C, C++, or Rust. In a typical week, you may prototype new sensor modules, debug MIPI signal integrity on the bench, write microcontroller firmware, work with contract manufacturers on design-for-manufacturability and certification, and manage hardware rollout to the robot fleet. You'll collaborate daily with mechanical engineers on packaging, thermals, and integration, and with software engineers on drivers, interfaces, and system performance. Key responsibilities include: owning electrical designs through full lifecycle (concept to production); designing sensing and motor control electronics for industrial interfaces (RS-485, CAN); architecting multi-sensor systems with integrated SoCs; designing power delivery with complex power trees; battery management in compact enclosures; writing and debugging embedded firmware and device drivers; partnering on enclosure integration and thermal design; and driving designs to production including DFM/DFT, EMC, regulatory certification (FCC, CE), test fixture development, and manufacturing ramp with internal and external partners. You should have 5+ years shipping complex electronics products with demonstrated full-stack EE ownership from concept to production. Deep experience with highly integrated SoC designs (Qualcomm, NXP i.MX, Ambarella) and high-speed interfaces (MIPI CSI/DSI, USB 3.x, PCIe) is essential. Expertise in imaging systems (sensor selection, ISP tuning, frame sync) or motor control (BLDC drivers, current sensing, encoders) is highly valued. You thrive with high dynamic range: thinking deeply about system architecture and its impact on model performance, while also getting hands-on with soldering, oscilloscope measurements, and live system testing. Experience managing external suppliers, design partners, and contract manufacturers through schedule planning, materials sourcing, and production ramp is important.
