Gather AI is building a vision-powered platform using autonomous drones and existing equipment to digitize warehouse workflows. The Hardware Deployment Project Manager will own the hardware readiness and logistics for customer deployments, serving as the hub between the hardware engineering team and field operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end hardware readiness for each customer deployment: build schedules, kit lists, parts status, shipping, and site prerequisites.
- Serve as the hardware liaison lead on-site during customer installations and go-lives, then hand off cleanly to Field Ops.
- Triage and own tier-2 hardware escalations, routing issues to the appropriate technician or engineer and closing the loop.
- Own the RMA (return merchandise authorization) process: intake, disposition, failure analysis coordination, and trend reporting to engineering and suppliers.
- Maintain BOM (bill of materials) accuracy and configuration management across all hardware programs, including revision control and serial/configuration traceability.
- Build and document processes including readiness checklists, RMA workflows, and configuration control procedures.
- Coordinate development builds and test assets with engineering and technicians; translate field findings into engineering action items.
- Provide Purchasing with clear demand forecasts and flag long-lead and single-source supply risks early.
- Work collaboratively with Hardware leadership, engineers, technicians, Field Ops, Purchasing, and customer implementation teams.
The role reports to the Director of Hardware. You'll be based in Pittsburgh with flexibility to work remotely elsewhere in the US, with approximately one week per month on-site in Pittsburgh. When customer deployments are active, travel to deployment sites takes priority. Eastern time zone is preferred.
Requirements:
- Proven experience owning hardware readiness for deployments, production launches, or NPI (new product introduction) builds end-to-end, covering schedules, kits, parts, and handoffs while keeping other teams on track without direct authority.
- Demonstrated ownership of hardware records: BOMs and revisions, configurations and change control, or RMA processes. Ideally you have built one of these systems, not just managed it.
- Ability to read assembly and part drawings, electrical schematics, and understand critical-to-quality callouts. Comfortable getting hands-on to troubleshoot hardware.
- Proven ability to take a field escalation from first report through resolution while keeping all stakeholders informed.
- Detail-oriented, agile, and adaptable; able to adjust quickly when plans change.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in warehouse, material handling, or forklift environments.
- Robotics or autonomous-vehicle deployment experience.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers or contract manufacturers on engineering change orders (ECOs) or recurring defects.
- Familiarity with Document Control, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
