Pacific Fusion, founded in 2023 and backed by over $900M in funding, is building a pulser-driven inertial fusion system to achieve net facility gain and develop affordable fusion energy components. The company is rapidly scaling its hardware engineering organization and seeks a Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist to serve as the backbone of engineering integrity across the fusion demonstration system.
In this role, you will own the processes and tools—centered on PTC Windchill PLM—that keep the hardware baseline accurate as design evolves at startup speed. You will manage thousands of custom mechanical and electrical assemblies subject to constant iteration, ensuring they remain traceable, releasable, and buildable at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operate Windchill PLM as the single source of truth for part numbers, CAD data, BOMs, and released documentation
- Manage the full engineering change lifecycle (ECRs, ECOs, deviations) through review, approval, and release
- Establish and enforce configuration baselines for hardware assemblies and subsystems, keeping as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained records in sync
- Partner with design engineers to structure BOMs, part numbering schemes, and CAD/PLM workflows that scale with rapid growth
- Coordinate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to assess change impact, manage effectivity dates, and prevent build schedule disruption
- Audit configuration data for accuracy and completeness, resolving discrepancies before they affect procurement or assembly
- Develop and deliver training on Windchill workflows and change processes to engineers and technicians
- Support internal and customer audits by producing clean, traceable configuration and change history records
This is a high-impact role at the interface of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain. You will work in a first-of-a-kind research environment requiring proactive problem-solving, cross-functional influence, and strong communication.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience in hardware configuration management and engineering change management in hardware-intensive environments
- Hands-on, working knowledge of PTC Windchill (workflows, BOM management, change objects, lifecycle states) required
- Solid understanding of engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN) and configuration management principles for complex, multi-revision hardware
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and BOMs to assess change impact
- Proactive, self-starter mindset capable of navigating ambiguity in first-of-a-kind research projects
- Positive attitude and ability to influence cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
BONUS:
- Experience with configuration management in highly-regulated, first-of-a-kind, or national laboratory environments (SNL, LANL, LLNL)
- ASQ CQE, CMPIC, or similar configuration/change management certification
