Helsing is a defense AI company focused on protecting democracies through technological leadership. You will join a dedicated Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) team responsible for developing and validating state estimation, navigation, and guidance algorithms for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platforms.
In this role, you will own end-to-end development of bespoke controllers for UAS platforms, from conception through design, simulation, physical integration, and iterative feature development. Key responsibilities include designing and testing state estimator algorithms that perform robustly in contested environments, simulating navigation and guidance algorithm performance to inform sensor stack specifications (IMUs, GPS/GNSS, barometers, magnetometers, image-based positioning), and analyzing real sensor and test data to calibrate sensors and validate performance.
You will support the specification and execution of navigation and guidance algorithm evaluation tests, collaborate with cross-functional teams including Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Embedded Hardware/Software, and Testing disciplines, and contribute to flight test execution and analysis.
Required qualifications include an M.Sc. or PhD in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent; at least 5 years of professional experience in navigation, guidance, or state estimation development; very good Matlab/Simulink skills; solid background in state estimation theory, aerodynamics, stability and control, and systems modeling; excellent communication and presentation abilities; solid software engineering skills in Matlab, Python, Rust, Java, or modern C++; and passion for staying current with research and implementing state-of-the-art navigation and guidance algorithms.
Nice-to-have qualifications include hands-on experience with fixed-wing aircraft or drones and familiarity with open-source autopilots like Ardupilot or PX4.
