Rocket Lab is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer II/Senior – Fluids to serve as a subject matter expert and technical decision-maker for critical ground systems supporting the Neutron medium-lift launch vehicle. This is a hands-on, collaborative role based at Wallops Island, VA, where you'll design, build, and activate fluid systems that operate in harsh, hazardous environments. Key responsibilities include: - Design of fluid systems encompassing cryogenics, hydraulics, fuels, high-pressure gases, and HVAC - 2D and 3D CAD modeling using NX software - System sizing and analysis via hand calculations and numerical methods - Generation and maintenance of schematics (P&IDs, connection diagrams) - Component selection and BOM development and maintenance - Supplier and cross-functional team collaboration - Launch pad fluid systems certification support - Maintenance program development For Level II Engineer candidates: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited), 2+ years of aerospace or industrial design/testing/operations experience, strong fundamentals in fluid systems and CAD proficiency. For Senior Engineer I candidates: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited), 5+ years of applicable aerospace or industrial experience, ability to mentor junior engineers, expertise in fluid systems design and CAD. Desirable qualifications include advanced degree, professional engineer license, piping systems experience, launch pad or engine test stand background, rocket/payload conditioning systems knowledge, oxygen equipment experience, nodal analysis tools (GFSSP, AFT), pipe stress software (Caesar II), and familiarity with ASME, ASTM, NFPA, or NASA ground system standards. This role requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer work, with occasional exposure to moderate noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.
