As a Ground Network Engineer on the Ground Software team, you will design, build, and operate the ground and site network infrastructure connecting Apex facilities and mission operations across commercial and secured/classified environments. This is a hands-on technical role requiring expertise in both infrastructure architecture and security compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and building ground and site network infrastructure spanning commercial and secured/classified environments through the platform layer
- Designing, deploying, and scaling highly available Kubernetes clusters supporting workloads across multiple security and classification levels
- Owning the security posture of ground infrastructure, defining and enforcing controls, hardening, and compliance for sensitive government and commercial programs
- Building and maintaining infrastructure as code using Terraform, Terragrunt, and similar tooling for repeatable, reviewable, fast environment setup
- Establishing observability across the ground network including monitoring, metrics, logging, and alerting to catch issues before they impact missions
- Designing and running CI/CD pipelines and automation to streamline deployments and reduce manual work
- Acting as a primary site reliability engineer for ground systems, driving uptime and incident response where downtime is not an option
- Partnering with security, mission operations, and program teams to translate requirements into compliant and operable infrastructure
- Setting architectural standards and mentoring other engineers to raise the bar for ground infrastructure at Apex
Required qualifications: U.S. Person status; 5+ years in site reliability, infrastructure, or network engineering with meaningful aerospace, defense, satellite, or mission-critical experience; hands-on experience architecting and operating ground or large-scale production network infrastructure; deep Kubernetes and container expertise; strong networking fundamentals; proven infrastructure-as-code experience; working knowledge of security and compliance for regulated/classified environments; proficiency in Python, Go, or comparable languages.
Nice-to-haves include active Top Secret/SCI clearance, prior classified or government space program experience, and familiarity with GitOps and modern observability stacks.
