Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company developing advanced supersonic aircraft and propulsion systems. The company is building guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems for clean-sheet autonomous aircraft, integrating proprietary dual-use propulsion technology with innovative flight operations models.
As a GNC Software Engineer, you will own the guidance and control systems for autonomous aircraft development. You'll work from first principles, writing both simulation and flight-critical code while collaborating closely with hardware and software teams to achieve real-world flight performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing GNC systems for aerospace products
- Building and maintaining 6-DOF dynamics and simulation models for control design, analysis, and validation
- Participating in multi-disciplinary aircraft trades and system architecture definition
- Creating tooling to automate control design, Monte Carlo analysis, and simulation validation
- Supporting flight and ground test operations
- Conducting post-flight/test reviews and correlating actual performance with predictions for continuous improvement
You should have a Master's degree or PhD in aerospace engineering, software engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Professional experience in GNC development for aerospace or autonomous vehicle programs is required, along with strong flight dynamics, modeling, and simulation expertise. Proficiency in systems languages (Rust, C++, or equivalent) plus Python for analysis and tooling is essential. You should be comfortable with modern software development practices including version control, code review, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
