Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, is seeking a GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) Hardware Engineer to join its spacecraft development team in Mountain View, CA. The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site.
You will own the full lifecycle of spacecraft attitude control system hardware—from component sizing and trade-space analysis through build-vs-buy decisions, integration, testing, and on-orbit support. This is hands-on engineering work with real spacecraft systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluating GNC sensor and actuator options to meet power, cost, performance, and operational requirements
- Characterizing hardware performance and cross-system interactions (software, electrical, thermal)
- Building, validating, and improving simulation models of GNC components
- Conducting trade studies to optimize sensor and actuator configurations
- Defining and executing test plans at component and integrated system levels (design verification, qualification, acceptance testing)
- Managing vendor interactions with the Supply Chain team
- Collaborating with integration and hardware teams on system assembly
- Monitoring on-orbit performance and supporting anomaly resolution, including on-call rotations
- Supporting hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Staying current with industry state-of-the-art developments
The company manufactures spacecraft and payloads at scale from its Silicon Valley facility, serving climate monitoring and national security missions.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or applied physics, OR equivalent hands-on experience with GNC hardware
- Familiarity with common spacecraft attitude sensor and actuator models
- No minimum work experience explicitly required; autonomy and responsibility scale with experience
- Availability to work in Mountain View location
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving challenges
Nice-to-have:
- Passion for shipping real products quickly
