Rocket Lab is seeking a GNC Engineer II to join the Mission Formulation team at their Long Beach headquarters. This role focuses on Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) design, modeling, analyses, and testing for Rocket Lab launches and missions, including classified programs on HASTE and Electron launch vehicles.
Key responsibilities include conducting trade studies and preliminary/final mission analyses; orbital and suborbital trajectory design and analysis; working with external stakeholders and customers on mission-specific requirements; documenting GNC solutions and participating in design reviews; supporting hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing; conducting Monte Carlo simulation analyses; developing and supporting flight code release; and building tools and processes to automate GNC modeling and analysis tasks.
You'll serve as the GNC contact to Business Development for proposals and mission definition, develop launch and mission operational concepts, and collaborate across engineering teams and production.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of industry experience in GNC/ADCS; understanding of orbital mechanics and/or closed-loop control systems (preferably launch vehicles); experience with trajectory optimization; proven experience developing real-time control and/or estimation algorithms in autonomous vehicles (preferably launch vehicles); Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
Desirable qualifications include Active TS/SCI clearance, requirements assessment and ICD generation experience, git version control, 3+ years in dynamics systems modeling/simulation/control, 3+ years Python development, 3+ years MATLAB/SciPy data analysis, C/C++ development, experience with POST/ASTOS/TAOS tools, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.
