Applied Intuition Defence, based in London, is a subsidiary focused on delivering dual-use autonomy solutions to national security customers for air, land, sea, and space platforms. As a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer, you will design, integrate, and test core flight autonomy capabilities across a full range of aerial unmanned aerial systems (UAS), from agile quadrotors to long-range fixed-wing platforms. You'll work at the forefront of defense aerial autonomy, partnering across teams to create and adapt GNC algorithms to unique program requirements. Your contributions will feed into the company's core software stack, becoming reusable capabilities that power multiple programs rather than single-use solutions. Key responsibilities include: - Writing software for real autonomous aircraft systems (Group 1-5 UAVs) and simulated models to accomplish tactical military missions - Building, leveraging, and improving aerial autonomy software architectures tested and deployed on real systems - Collaborating with third-party UAS vehicle vendors to develop and integrate autonomy software onto OEM hardware - Developing and implementing outer-loop control systems and path planning algorithms - Creating and simulating 3DoF/6DoF models of air vehicles - Conducting flight testing and data analysis Required qualifications: - Master's degree in Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar - 6+ years hands-on experience developing GNC software for autonomous systems - Strong C++ development experience - Expertise in control theory, dynamics, and optimization applied to real-world systems - Experience with UAS GNC/navigation systems (PX4, Ardupilot) - Flight testing and data analysis experience - Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (current or previous preferred) Nice-to-have skills include Docker/containerized development, Linux, Python, DevOps, Bazel, software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and prior national security project experience. The role requires general willingness to travel between offices and customer sites. Applied Intuition operates primarily in-office (5 days/week) with flexibility for occasional remote work.
