Volta is building a fully vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform—from capital to clusters to software—with a mission to make compute as dependable and available as electricity. Backed by a $10B strategic partnership with a leading frontier AI lab, Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund, Volta is scaling rapidly across London, Palo Alto, and New York.
As Global Mechanical Design Manager, you will own mechanical design strategy across Volta's entire fleet of AI infrastructure projects. You will establish and maintain mechanical reference designs—with cooling as the primary focus—ensuring they are applied consistently across all projects and adapted only with disciplined governance. Your core responsibility is keeping Volta's cooling and mechanical designs standardized, buildable, and optimized for liquid-cooled NVIDIA Vera deployments, so every new project inherits fleet best practices rather than reinventing solutions.
Key responsibilities include: owning mechanical reference designs used across all Volta projects; governing the application of standard designs on each project and managing deviations with discipline; assuring project mechanical design across heat rejection, chilled water, and liquid cooling systems; reviewing consultant and contractor mechanical deliverables against fleet standards; supporting cooling architecture decisions for liquid-cooled, high-density compute; collaborating with procurement on specifications for long-lead mechanical plant; feeding commissioning and operational lessons back into reference designs; and coaching project design leads on mechanical standards and best practices.
You will need deep expertise in data center mechanical design, with essential knowledge of cooling systems (chilled water, heat rejection plant) and working knowledge of liquid cooling for high-density compute. You should have a proven track record governing design standards across multiple projects or managing a fleet, plus experience reviewing and assuring consultant and contractor design work. Comfort working across European and US projects and time zones is required.
Volta offers competitive salary based on the work you do, equity in the company, retirement/pension contributions, comprehensive health and wellbeing benefits, and generous vacation days.
