Turnitin, a 25+ year-old global education technology company, is seeking a Global Financial Controller to lead and transform the global accounting function across all geographies and verticals. This is a strategic C-suite adjacent role reporting to the CFO, responsible for delivering world-class financial operations, reporting, tax, treasury, compliance, and internal controls that support enterprise growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership to elevate the Global Accounting function into a center of excellence, architecting organizational design and capacity models for scalability.
- Leading and mentoring high-performing, distributed finance teams across all core accounting pillars (Statutory Reporting, Audit, Payroll, Treasury, Compliance, Tax).
- Driving end-to-end global accounting strategy and execution, partnering with the C-suite to establish robust corporate governance frameworks and industry best practices.
- Championing global compliance strategy, standardizing SOPs, policies, and internal controls to mitigate operational risk across diverse markets.
- Overseeing external and internal financial audit engagements (KPMG, Advance Accounting) to maintain clean audit outcomes and reporting integrity.
- Delivering timely, data-informed financial insights and board-level reporting to support strategic decisions by executive leadership and the Board.
- Innovating and optimizing internal control frameworks, leveraging automation and modern finance tools to safeguard organizational assets.
- Spearheading M&A integration across regional finance operations, banking networks, and enterprise system architectures.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives that modernize processes and foster a high-engagement culture.
- Managing global departmental budgets, maximizing ROI on finance investments and technology tools.
- Serving as a trusted strategic thought partner to the CFO on transformational initiatives and enterprise financial strategy.
- Evaluating and implementing AI tools and emerging technologies to drive operational efficiencies and automation across global finance processes.
The role is fully remote and based in the UK, though Turnitin operates globally with team members in 35+ countries.
Requirements:
Essential:
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership, with specific experience navigating US business operations and cultivating high-performing, agile global teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent) paired with CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent professional credential.
- Proven track record in spearheading finance system modernization, automation, and agile operational workflows to support long-term enterprise growth.
- Deep expertise in US/Global GAAP and ASC revenue recognition across multi-jurisdiction environments.
- Strong working knowledge of US domestic and international tax accounting principles to drive effective risk mitigation.
- Demonstrated capacity to prioritize and deliver high-impact outcomes across complex, multi-threaded priorities under tight timelines.
- Ability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable business stories for executive leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
- Sharp business acumen to partner seamlessly with operational leaders, influencing strategic choices and driving business value.
- Ability to connect big-picture strategy with tactical execution, leveraging data insights to navigate change effectively.
- Demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and inspiring remote and global distributed finance teams.
Desirable:
- Deep industry familiarity with technology, SaaS, software, or information services business models.
