Cavela is building an AI-powered product sourcing platform that transforms e-commerce by connecting brands with top-quality manufacturers globally. The company is well-funded with a team of experienced operators from Primark, Printful, DS Smith, Stripe, Google, and IBM.
As Global Buyer, you will strengthen and scale Cavela's rapidly growing global manufacturing network. This is a strategic sourcing role requiring deep expertise in supplier relationships, not a transactional purchasing coordinator position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, vet, and onboard exceptional manufacturers that complement the growing supplier network
- Evaluate manufacturers for capability, quality systems, compliance, production capacity, and long-term fit
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, lead times, payment terms, and commercial agreements while building lasting partnerships
- Translate product requirements into detailed, execution-ready manufacturing specifications
- Source products and suppliers capable of meeting retail-grade standards for leading brands
- Partner with sourcing and operations teams to ensure scalable, documented supplier relationships
- Maintain accurate supplier data and sourcing activity within internal systems
- Anticipate and resolve supplier risks, production issues, and quality concerns proactively
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years in buying, sourcing, procurement, or supplier management
- Experience with major retailers, brands, or consumer products companies (TJX, Ross, Walmart, Costco, Target, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to identify, vet, and develop direct factory relationships
- Proven negotiation skills for pricing, MOQs, lead times, and commercial terms
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production risk management
- Ability to translate product requirements into clear manufacturing specifications
- Excellent commercial judgment and supplier relationship management
- Comfortable with ERPs, sourcing platforms, and operational systems
- High ownership mindset and ability to thrive in fast-moving, high-growth environments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Existing network of manufacturers and suppliers
- Sourcing experience in markets beyond Asia
- Off-price retail, private label, or consumer goods sourcing background
- Direct factory relationships (not solely through trading companies)
- Multilingual capabilities
- Experience building scalable supplier management processes
