You will join the Exploration Geophysics team as a Geophysicist I, focusing on seismic imaging of the subsurface using ambient noise and passive seismic methods. Your primary responsibility is converting passive seismic signals into actionable insights—specifically, images of basement depth, fault geometry, and structural features that inform drilling decisions for geothermal resources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building velocity models and imaging basement depth, layering, and fault structure from passive seismic arrays
- Locating and analyzing microseismicity to map active faults, stress regimes, and structural controls on geothermal systems
- Developing, benchmarking, and refining passive seismic imaging methods to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Constructing reproducible, well-documented processing pipelines (Python/ObsPy or equivalent) that scale to large datasets
- Collaborating with Exploration, R&D, and drilling teams to integrate passive imaging results into prospect evaluation and decision-making
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Master's degree (completed or near completion) in geophysics, seismology, or closely related field
- Demonstrated research expertise in passive seismic methods such as ambient noise tomography or microseismic analysis, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications
- Strong foundation in seismic signal processing and inversion techniques
- Proficiency in scientific computing and reproducible workflows (Python, HPC), with version control (Git/GitHub)
- Ability to translate research-stage methods into practical, decision-grade tools under real-world data and time constraints
- Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills; ability to communicate and integrate results with geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and data scientists
The role is hybrid, based in Salt Lake City, Utah headquarters. Benefits include 18 days PTO plus accrual increases, medical/dental/vision coverage, 401k, short-term disability, and stock options.
