Clio, the global leader in legal AI technology, recently acquired Corvum, a cloud-native VoIP telephony platform built for law firms. This General Manager role is accountable for transforming that acquisition into a scaled business across Clio's SMB customer base.
You will own Clio Phones end-to-end, with full P&L responsibility as the business matures. This is a build role: the product and team exist, but pricing architecture, attach motion, support model, forecast, and operating cadence do not yet. You will create and scale all of them.
Key ownership areas:
**Business & Strategy:** Own operating metrics and P&L from day one. Build the operating plan and investment model with Finance. Establish Clio's market authority on legal-vertical voice—customer needs, category economics, competitive dynamics. Run business review cadence, own OKRs, and report to the executive team.
**Go-to-Market:** Partner with Sales on overlay strategy. Collaborate with Customer Success on implementation. Own launch sequencing, positioning, and demand partnership with Marketing. Drive retention and expansion alongside acquisition.
**People & Leadership:** Lead and hire domain phone experts. Own milestones, manage risk, and hit value-creation targets from the deal thesis. Lead a cross-functional pod through influence across product, engineering, sales, success, support, legal, tax, and finance. Stand up a dedicated Phones Operations team covering porting, provisioning, carrier escalation, and compliance.
**Telecom Operations:** Voice operations are unforgiving—outages mean law firms miss client calls. Own number inventory and porting at volume (order accuracy, first-pass success, rejection recovery, port timelines). Manage carrier and vendor relationships (SLAs, redundancy, routing quality, rate management, invoice reconciliation). Negotiate multi-year commercial terms. Own reliability targets, monitoring, status pages, incident escalation, and post-incident review. Implement fraud controls including toll-fraud detection, spend caps, and account security.
**Regulatory & Compliance:** Own the recurring compliance calendar with Legal and Tax. Manage telecom tax filing cadence.
**Partnerships & Market:** Own the partner portfolio (carriers, hardware, installation). Represent Clio Phones with customers, partners, industry bodies, and at Clio events.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years in UCaaS, VoIP, CPaaS, or telecom, including 4+ years in a senior leadership role owning a voice business line or voice operations organization
- Deep, hands-on command of number porting, carrier management, 911, and US and Canadian telecom regulation (FCC, CRTC, state commissions)
- Experience launching or scaling phones inside an SMB software company, or running voice operations at a provider serving SMB customers
- Fluency in voice economics: carrier cost, cost to serve, contribution margin, churn. Must have owned a number and defended the model
- Sufficient depth in SIP, networking, and session border controllers to challenge engineering and diagnose escalations (not hands-on in the stack)
- Executive-level negotiation experience, including multi-year commercial deals with carriers or channel partners
- Demonstrated results moving GTM and engineering organizations you did not control
- Decision-making under ambiguity; ability to define scope, org design, and priorities
- Scrappy and structural mindset: do the work yourself when needed, then build systems to avoid repetition
- Ability to explain complex telecom problems simply to customers, reps, and executives
- Credibility with professional-services audiences. Legal, legaltech, or regulated-industry experience is a strong advantage
**Preferred:**
- Launched phones inside a vertical SaaS platform
- Built a porting or voice operations team from scratch
- Integrated an acquired product and team into a larger platform
- Canadian telecom experience
**Work Environment:** Hybrid, with expectation for local employees (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin, Sydney) to be in office minimum twice per week. Flexible time off policy with 20 days encouraged per year.
