Physical Intelligence is developing foundation models and learning algorithms to power robots and physically-actuated devices. As a Fullstack Software Engineer on the Fullstack team, you will build internal products that enable Pi's research and operations teams to move faster, working closely with operators, roboticists, researchers, and other engineers to turn physical workflows into reliable software.
You will own the human-robot interfaces—the software people use to run, monitor, and debug robots from setup and calibration through live operation and review. Your responsibilities include:
- Designing interfaces for entire shifts, not just individual episodes. You'll consolidate preparation, troubleshooting, handoffs, and feedback across multiple tools into one coherent surface that highlights what deserves attention now and detects when operators are stuck.
- Prioritizing safety by making state unambiguous, making failures obvious, and ensuring the safe action is the easy one. You'll design for degraded conditions—network drops, camera failures—so the system fails predictably rather than surprisingly.
- Owning realtime edge systems: video, robot state, and control at latency budgets tight enough for direct teleoperation, including controllers, headsets, pedals, and sensors.
- Drawing the line between device and cloud: determining what must stay local for safety or latency reasons versus what belongs in a control plane managing identity, state, and coordination across sites.
- Shipping into the physical world with on-prem and on-device deployment, versioning and rollout across lab, warehouse, and partner sites, and sufficient observability to track what's running where.
- Instrumenting interfaces to measure where operations lose time, then testing changes against those metrics.
- Acting as your own PM: gathering requirements, prioritizing, defining success metrics, shipping, and driving adoption by standing in the room and watching shifts.
Requirements:
- Strong fullstack engineering experience building production web applications and APIs, especially with React, TypeScript, and Python.
- Realtime web experience: WebRTC, WebSockets, streaming video, state synchronization, and associated debugging.
- Comfort with binary wire formats and schema-defined interfaces (protobuf, gRPC, or similar).
- Experience shipping software on machines you do not administer: on-prem or on-device deployment, degraded-network operation, fleet versioning.
- Strong UX instincts for high-stakes, high-frequency interfaces where users are under time pressure and mistakes have physical consequences.
- Ability to design workflows where people, hardware, and software function as one system.
- Strong product judgment and experience working directly with users through ambiguous, evolving workflows.
Bonus: founder or early-employee experience, teleoperation/robotics background, safety-critical or industrial systems experience (control room, medical device, aviation, automotive), hardware-adjacent background (firmware, embedded, device integration), workflow/dispatch/scheduling systems experience, or familiarity with React, TypeScript, Python, Postgres, GCP, and Kubernetes.
