OpenAI's Financial Services team, part of the Verticals organization, is building AI-native products for financial institutions and professionals. This is a zero-to-one engineering role focused on creating new capabilities within ChatGPT Work and Codex for company research, financial analysis, document review, and professional workflows.
You will own the full-stack experience, building intuitive interfaces and backend services that connect financial data providers, enterprise systems, and OpenAI's models. The role involves close collaboration with product and design teams to translate ambiguous customer problems into polished, reliable products that financial professionals can trust.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building new financial services applications within ChatGPT Work and Codex, creating AI-native experiences for research and analysis
- Developing product experiences around enterprise memory that learns from organizational knowledge and workflows
- Creating APIs, services, and integrations connecting user experiences with financial data and enterprise systems
- Working directly with financial institutions to understand needs, unblock deployments, and iterate on feedback
- Partnering across research, security, and infrastructure teams to move prototypes to scaled production
You should have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of shipping production software across the stack. Expertise in TypeScript, React, and modern web technologies is required, along with backend experience in Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript. Strong product instincts, comfort working across organizational boundaries, and a high bar for usability, reliability, security, and performance in enterprise environments are essential. Experience as a founder, early-stage startup engineer, or someone who has built products from scratch is a plus. Direct AI/ML or financial services experience is helpful but not required.
