Salary: USD 145,000 - 250,000 / annual
OpenTeams, founded by Travis Oliphant (creator of NumPy and SciPy) and built by veterans of the open-source ecosystem (NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, Jupyter), is seeking a Full-Stack Platform Engineer to build an AI platform that enterprises and governments can own, control, and govern themselves.
In this role, you will design and implement both the backend API surface and the frontend analyst-facing interfaces for an AI platform. The API-first philosophy is central: all platform capabilities are consumed through documented interfaces by analysts, internal teams, and partner organizations. Your backend work includes building services for workflow orchestration, data ingestion, evaluation execution, and results management, plus implementing identity federation and access controls (OpenID Connect, SAML, PKI/X.509) that work across deployment environments. On the frontend, you'll build modern web consoles and utilities where analysts launch workflows, inspect results, and diagnose failures.
A key principle: the analyst-facing UI must be built strictly on the same public APIs external integrators use, ensuring the platform is genuinely headless. You'll also produce documentation, reference implementations, client examples, and notebooks to enable partner and Government teams to integrate with published interfaces.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining versioned API specifications, implementing authentication and authorization across services, designing relational data models, building UI for AI-specific patterns (streaming output, long-running agentic runs, prompt management, result comparison), writing automated tests and CI pipelines, and collaborating with platform, security, infrastructure, and ML engineers.
Required: 5+ years of full-stack or backend engineering experience with API-first services emphasis. Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, Go, or comparable language. U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Experience with relational databases, modern web frameworks, and API design patterns expected.
This position is contingent on contract award. Travel up to 15% may be required, primarily to Government facilities. Unclassified work may be performed remotely; future classified work may require appropriate clearance and onsite work in an accredited facility.
