ICEYE is hiring a Full Stack AI Software Engineer to join its Portugal operations in Lisbon, reporting to the CEO of ICEYE Portugal. This is a hybrid role that serves as a launchpad into ICEYE's Forward Deployed Engineering track, where successful engineers transition into customer-facing, embedded roles with defense and intelligence organizations.
You will be the technical engine of ICEYE Portugal, building software that transforms raw satellite intelligence into mission-critical decisions. The role spans the full stack—from robust data models and backend services to intuitive user interfaces—architecting systems for reliability and scale in global intelligence operations.
Key technical challenges include: (1) Deterministic Agentic Orchestration—engineering stateful, multi-agent workflows that provide reliable outcomes in non-deterministic environments, resolving conflicts between high-resolution SAR signatures and heterogeneous SIGINT/OSINT feeds at the edge; (2) Geospatial RAG & Distributed Vector Consistency—architecting hybrid RAG systems that maintain semantic alignment across air-gapped and DDIL (Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent, Limited) environments; (3) High-Concurrency Spatial Engineering—optimizing geospatial data performance for ultra-low latency analysis over massive satellite datasets on constrained hardware; (4) AI & Mission Intelligence—integrating AI into real workflows with reliable, observable, scalable services and APIs across cloud and on-premises environments.
Required qualifications: 2–7 years shipping production systems end-to-end; degree in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience; full-stack capability with strong backend (Python required, plus a typed language like Go, TypeScript, or Rust) and modern web frontend skills (React/TypeScript); systems architecture fundamentals; solid database design and SQL optimization; fluency with LLMs, RAG, and AI-native engineering tools; networking foundations; hands-on Linux, Docker, and familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code; high-intensity builder mindset; excellent English communication and C2/near-native Portuguese proficiency; eligibility for national and NATO security clearances.
Nice-to-have skills include geospatial data and satellite imagery experience (GDAL, Rasterio, PostGIS, GeoJSON, COG, Cesium); observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry); event-driven systems (NATS); auth standards (OAuth, OIDC, JWT); model inference and hardware optimization; experience in secure/air-gapped environments; defense/intelligence/government operational background; signal/RF/embedded/edge-to-cloud systems experience; genuine interest in the Forward Deployed career path.
