Nominal is building a connected test and operations platform for advanced hardware systems, serving customers in aerospace, autonomous vehicles, and defense. The company works with leading teams like Anduril, Shield AI, Hermeus, and REGENT, as well as U.S. Navy and Air Force programs. Backed by Sequoia, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Lightspeed, Nominal's team includes veterans from SpaceX, Palantir, Anduril, and Applied Intuition.
As a Frontend Software Engineer, Data, you'll design and build interfaces that help hardware engineers explore, understand, and act on massive streams of telemetry and operational data. This role goes beyond visual design—you'll model complex systems, define data workflows, and transform high-volume real-time data into tools for mission-critical decision-making.
Key responsibilities include: designing products around complex data and large-scale telemetry; owning ambiguous product problems by partnering with product, design, and backend teams; building scalable frontend architecture using React and TypeScript to handle complex workflows and large datasets; simplifying complexity through thoughtful information architecture and interaction design; and optimizing performance for real-time updates and high-frequency data streams.
You'll combine strong frontend engineering with product judgment, spending significant time understanding how technical users reason about complex systems. Success requires navigating ambiguity by defining problems, forming hypotheses, and iterating with users rather than waiting for complete specifications.
Ideal candidates have 5+ years building products for technical users, strong TypeScript and modern frontend architecture experience, and background in data-intensive domains (observability, developer tools, infrastructure, GIS, security, financial systems). You should have a systems mindset, strong product instincts, excellent communication skills, and experience with React, state management, asynchronous data flows, and scalable application architecture. Experience with data visualization, performance optimization, and backend collaboration is valuable.
