Bobyard builds AI systems that automate construction takeoffs for contractors, eliminating dozens of hours of manual work per project in a multi-trillion-dollar industry still reliant on spreadsheets and manual estimation. The company is Series A-backed by 8VC, Primary, and Pear, and is growing rapidly. As a Frontend Engineer, you'll tackle one of the company's hardest UI challenges: rendering large construction drawings and dense estimate tables with zero friction. This involves optimizing canvas rendering, pan/zoom performance, and building tables with hundreds of rows that feel instant and responsive. You'll work directly with product and design teams to shape features beyond just implementing specifications. Key responsibilities include building and shipping core product UI in React and TypeScript, turning rough product direction and designs into polished production-ready interfaces, optimizing frontend performance for large drawings and data-dense tables, contributing to a reusable component library, prototyping quickly and iterating based on feedback, and diagnosing and fixing frontend bugs and rendering issues. You should have strong React and modern CSS fundamentals, real design sense (noticing and fixing spacing, hierarchy, and motion issues), comfort working from rough product direction, fluency in TypeScript and component architecture, high ownership mindset, and ability to learn quickly in unfamiliar systems. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is required. Nice-to-have skills include experience with data-dense or canvas-heavy interfaces, personal projects or open-source work involving performance-sensitive UI, and exposure to construction, real estate, or similar "boring industry, real problem" domains. The role is full-time, in-person in the SF Bay Area, with competitive compensation and equity.
