A US-based e-commerce retailer is seeking an experienced Frontend Developer to maintain and improve their custom headless Shopify Hydrogen storefront. This is primarily a frontend role focused on React development, though the ideal candidate will understand the broader Shopify ecosystem and be comfortable troubleshooting issues across Shopify APIs, third-party integrations, search, CMS, analytics, and customer-facing functionality.
You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing a custom Shopify Hydrogen storefront using React and React Router, building responsive and accessible interfaces with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Key responsibilities include working with Shopify's Storefront API, GraphQL, collections, products, variants, and metafields; translating business requirements and mockups into intuitive e-commerce experiences; evaluating proposed features for technical feasibility; troubleshooting issues across the storefront, Shopify data/APIs, browser behavior, and third-party integrations; and working with Storyblok headless CMS and Algolia search functionality.
You will also implement and troubleshoot e-commerce analytics and marketing integrations, support SEO requirements (redirects, canonical tags, structured data, breadcrumbs, metadata, indexability), improve frontend performance and maintainability, and communicate technical constraints and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The role requires working effectively within and improving an existing custom codebase.
The tech stack includes Shopify Hydrogen (React Router), React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Shopify GraphQL (Storefront & Admin APIs), Storyblok (CMS), Algolia (Search), GA4 / Klaviyo (Analytics & Marketing integrations), and Git with testing and deployment workflows.
This is a full-time remote position (40 hours/week, 9am–5pm Eastern Standard Time) based in Eastern Europe. **Requirements**
**Must-Haves:**
- Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and React Router
- Professional experience with Shopify Hydrogen and headless commerce
- Experience with Shopify APIs and GraphQL
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Good UI/UX judgment and experience translating designs or wireframes into functional interfaces
- Ability to evaluate technical feasibility and recommend practical solutions
- Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects and problems
- Full-time availability (40 hours/week)
**Nice-to-Haves:**
- Experience with Shopify theme architecture and customization
- Experience with Storyblok or another headless CMS
- Experience with Algolia in React or headless e-commerce environments
- Experience with e-commerce analytics and event tracking, including GA4
- Experience with Klaviyo or similar marketing integrations in a headless environment
- Experience with e-commerce SEO and site migrations
- Experience migrating established e-commerce sites from custom platforms to Shopify/Hydrogen
- Experience with performance optimization, Git, testing, and deployment workflows
