EtherFi is a major crypto-native financial services platform with over $10B in assets under management. The company operates on-chain banking products (Stake, Liquid, Cash) that enable users to earn yield through DeFi strategies and spend globally via a credit card program. The team is ~50 people, predominantly technical, and has been profitable since inception. As Fraud Engineer, you will own the complete fraud defense stack across EtherFi's consumer financial products, credit card program, and fund flows. This is a high-ownership individual contributor role requiring deep engagement with Engineering, Customer Experience, and Compliance teams. Key responsibilities include: - Building and maintaining real-time fraud monitoring, alerting, and automated mitigation systems - Proactively hunting emerging threats including cashback farming, card testing, merchant abuse, friendly fraud, money laundering, and malicious ecosystem behavior - Developing advanced fraud rules, behavioral signals, and scoring logic; tuning these systems as attack patterns evolve - Creating internal tools, dashboards, and scripts that multiply team effectiveness - Defining fraud strategy and operational playbooks that scale with business growth - Cross-functional communication with internal teams and external business partners to mitigate fraud risk Ideal candidates have a genuine passion for pattern recognition and outsmarting sophisticated attackers. You should excel at finding hidden signals in noisy transaction and behavioral data, operate with high ownership and low ego, and thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments. Prior experience in fintech, neobanking, payment processing, or crypto fraud is valued. Knowledge of card/payment fraud mechanics (card testing, BIN attacks, friendly fraud, merchant collusion) is a plus. While programming experience is preferred, the company welcomes candidates willing to learn modern AI agent development tools.
