Salary: USD 100,000 - 160,000 / annual
Northwood Space is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations for satellite communications. The company designs, builds, and deploys scalable systems supporting national security, global connectivity, and disaster response missions.
The FPGA Engineer will join the digital design team in Torrance, working on antenna systems with a focus on data transport and signal processing chains. Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, and testing FPGA blocks for high-rate parallel data processing; leading multi-disciplinary projects from prototype through shipment and operations; driving system architectures and analyzing performance trades; and analyzing field test data to diagnose issues and inform product improvements.
Required qualifications include 2-4+ years of professional FPGA design experience, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, expert-level proficiency in Verilog and SystemVerilog, Python experience, hands-on DSP and/or networking FPGA experience, FPGA SoC familiarity, and lab equipment proficiency (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) for debugging high-speed designs.
Preferred qualifications include HLS experience, C++ or Rust programming, and high-performance PCBA architecture knowledge.
The role is primarily remote with occasional office travel required, though onsite work is preferred. Compensation ranges from $100,000–$120,000 (Level 1) to $120,000–$160,000 (Level 2) annually, plus equity, performance bonuses, and comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k), disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and generous PTO.
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required due to ITAR compliance for space technology export regulations.
