Rork is building a platform that democratizes app development by leveraging AI coding to enable users to ship mobile applications that solve their own problems. The company's mission is to do for utilities what YouTube did to TV, making app development accessible and affordable for the masses.
As a Founding React Native Engineer, you will be responsible for the core mobile app experience at Rork. You'll work as a fullstack engineer on the React Native codebase, contributing to both the frontend and backend aspects of the mobile platform. This is an early-stage role at a 5-person team founded by technical generalists (Daniel & Levan) who ship fast and iterate quickly.
You will be expected to:
- Build and maintain the React Native and Expo-based mobile application
- Develop native modules and integrations in Swift and/or Kotlin as needed
- Optimize bundling and understand React Native's internals at a deep level
- Ship pixel-perfect UIs with strong attention to design and user experience
- Work at a startup pace with high velocity and intensity
- Collaborate closely with founders and a small team in a hands-on environment
The role offers significant equity upside as a founding engineer and the opportunity to shape the product and technical direction from the ground up. You'll be working on a platform with the potential to impact millions of users by making app development accessible.
The interview process includes three stages: an initial vibe call discussing past projects and coding experience, a longer technical interview that may include live coding, and a paid work trial (preferably in-person, with travel covered by Rork). The trial typically takes 2 weeks, though faster decisions are possible if there's a poor fit.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep expertise in React Native and Expo
- Experience building native apps or native modules in Swift and/or Kotlin
- Strong understanding of React Native's bundling and internals
- Demonstrated ability to ship fast and work at high intensity (10+ hours/day, 6+ days/week)
- Excellent design taste and attention to detail
- Portfolio of shipped projects you're proud of and can share
- Bonus: Experience shipping apps with 10K+ users
- Bonus: Experience integrating LLMs into mobile applications
- Bonus: Familiarity with and inspiration from modern developer tools (Bun, Deno, Cloudflare, Neon, Clickhouse, Vercel)
