AgentMail is building communication infrastructure for AI agents. The company enables AI agents to send, receive, and act on email programmatically, giving them their own email identities and infrastructure to operate independently across services humans use daily. They have processed hundreds of millions of emails and serve developers building ambitious agentic products.
As a Founding Product Engineer, you will own products end-to-end, from identifying ambiguous customer problems to shipping solutions developers use daily. Your responsibilities include:
- Building products across the full stack: polished frontend experiences, APIs, backend services, data models, and infrastructure as needed.
- Conducting direct customer research: interviewing developers, observing product usage, analyzing support conversations and usage data to identify friction points.
- Translating customer problems into products: determining what should be built (not just how), and developing conviction about which problems merit solving.
- Building AgentMail Studio: creating the interface developers use to understand, debug, and interact with their agents' email, including message inspection, thread management, workflow testing, and operational visibility.
- Shaping developer experience: improving the entire journey from signup through production deployment, including onboarding, SDKs, APIs, debugging tools, documentation, and console design.
- Rapid prototyping: converting customer conversations into usable products within days.
- Attention to detail: influencing design and interaction patterns with deep care for how products look, feel, and behave.
- Establishing product engineering culture: as one of the earliest product-focused engineers, you will shape how the team builds products as it scales.
This is not a role where a PM hands you a spec and a designer provides a Figma file. You will participate in the entire product process: user research, prioritization, solution design, implementation, shipping, and validation. You will have significant autonomy and an equally high bar for ownership.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Exceptional frontend engineering skills with strong product and design instincts.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and comfort working beyond frontend: APIs, backend systems, databases, queues, distributed systems.
- Ability to take vague problems (e.g., "developers can't figure out why their agent didn't respond") and turn them into products without detailed specs.
- Enjoyment of customer conversations and ability to distinguish stated requests from underlying problems.
- Ability to contextualize technical decisions in terms of customer and business impact.
- Strong opinions about products, combined with willingness to change based on data and customer evidence.
- Comfort moving quickly, shipping imperfect solutions, learning from usage, and iterating.
- Extremely high agency: instinct to fix broken or missing things independently.
- Track record of building things people love and independently moving from customer problem through shipped software to learning.
- Prior "Product Engineer" title not required; demonstrated ability to own the full product cycle is what matters.
