As Forward Deployed Engineering Lead in New York, you will build and lead the FDE (Forward Deployed Engineering) team at this location while remaining deeply hands-on in building and shipping. You'll join a small group of FDE leaders globally who are defining how this function operates and scales. The role combines technical leadership with direct customer engagement—you'll partner with customers building cutting-edge AI systems, personally design and implement solutions, and translate real-world deployment patterns into core product improvements.
Key responsibilities include recruiting and developing high-performing technical teams, working directly with customers to understand workflows and technical challenges, designing and prototyping solutions alongside your team, owning projects end-to-end from conception through iteration, setting technical standards through architecture decisions and code reviews, and shaping how the FDE function scales globally.
You'll work with a modern tech stack including React and TypeScript on frontend, Golang and Rust on backend, cloud infrastructure via Cloudflare/GCP/AWS, and multiple LLM providers. The role requires balancing code writing, architectural decisions, team leadership, and senior stakeholder management in a high-velocity, high-ambiguity environment.
Ideal candidates bring 12+ years in software engineering and technical architecture, proven experience leading high-performing technical teams while remaining hands-on, strong full-stack fundamentals, architectural thinking around distributed systems, and exceptional product intuition. Bonus experience includes building teams from zero, working with agentic AI systems or LLMs in production, leading zero-to-one product development, or experience in founding/early-stage startups.
