As the founding Forward Deployed Engineer for the US East Coast, you will embed on-site with n8n's most strategic enterprise customers to turn complex deployments into production-ready success stories. You'll spend roughly 50-60% of your time traveling to customer sites for focused 5-day deployment engagements, working directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders to solve real operational problems.
Key responsibilities:
• Drive high-impact enterprise deployments by embedding on-site, arriving with a hypothesis, and leaving with production workflows in place. Partner closely with Deployment Strategists to align technical execution with customer priorities and adoption goals.
• Design and build production-grade automation solutions: custom workflows, integrations, and nodes tailored to each customer's environment. Extend existing n8n nodes or add missing functionality to unlock high-value enterprise use cases. Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete automation designs.
• Bridge customer needs with Product and Engineering by identifying when bespoke requirements should become reusable node improvements, product features, or platform capabilities. Document technical gaps, customer context, implementation learnings, and prioritization signals.
• Turn customer learnings into scalable products and playbooks. Contribute reusable workflows, custom nodes, and integration patterns to an internal library. Ensure every engagement makes the next one faster and more productized.
• Keep engagements focused and time-boxed with clear outcomes, rather than open-ended professional services. Build solutions customers can own and operate themselves. Know when to build, simplify, or push back to avoid unnecessary complexity.
You'll work across diverse industries and tech stacks, getting productive quickly in new environments. Your work will directly influence n8n's product roadmap and define how the company scales enterprise deployments.
REQUIREMENTS
Must-haves:
• Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience with production integrations, APIs, or automation pipelines
• Expertise building custom nodes, extending integrations, and working confidently with APIs, authentication patterns, data models, and event-driven systems
• Product-minded technical execution: ability to distinguish between one-off workarounds, reusable improvements, and product features
• Comfort working directly in customer environments and building trust with engineers, operators, and non-technical stakeholders
• Solution design skills to translate messy operational problems into clean, practical technical designs
• Strong technical judgment: knowing when to build, push back, and avoid gold-plating
• Willingness to travel 50-60% of the time for on-site engagements, primarily across Europe
• Ability to quickly understand new industries, tech stacks, and customer environments
Nice-to-haves:
• Familiarity with n8n or similar workflow automation tools
• Enterprise deployment experience in complex technical environments
• Experience building custom nodes, connectors, plugins, SDKs, or reusable integration frameworks
• Prior forward deployed, solutions engineering, or similar role at a product-led technical organization
• Experience turning customer learnings into product feedback and engineering specifications
