Hammerspace is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed directly within strategic customer accounts and solve complex data infrastructure challenges at the intersection of AI, HPC, and hybrid-cloud environments.
As an FDE, you will serve as the primary technical authority on-site, acting as a technical founder in the field rather than a traditional consultant or support engineer. Your responsibilities span multiple dimensions:
Deep Customer Embedding: You'll become an expert in each customer's domain, identifying and resolving real-world friction points before they escalate into larger issues. This requires understanding their unique infrastructure, workflows, and business objectives.
AI & Workload Optimization: Design and implement data architectures that accelerate AI/ML training pipelines, ensuring low-latency data access across hybrid-cloud environments. You'll optimize for performance in complex, distributed systems.
Custom Solutions Development: Beyond standard maintenance, you'll build custom integrations, automation scripts, and "last-mile" solutions that bridge Hammerspace's core platform with bespoke customer infrastructure. This includes writing production-grade tools that interface with Hammerspace APIs.
Business Development: Act as a technical scout, using your proximity to customer operations to identify new business problems, expansion opportunities, and emerging workloads that Hammerspace can address.
Product Feedback Loop: Partner with the Sustaining Engineering team to translate field-discovered bugs and gaps into core product features, ensuring local fixes become global platform strengths.
Stakeholder Management: Translate complex technical challenges into clear, actionable insights for both technical teams (data scientists, IT admins) and executive leadership.
Required Technical Qualifications:
- Deep expertise in GPU orchestration, AI/ML data pipelines, and high-performance file systems (NFS, SMB, S3)
- NVIDIA or Mellanox experience required
- Mastery of high-speed networking (InfiniBand, RoCE, 100GbE+) with ability to debug complex routing, latency, and throughput issues
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or C++ for production-grade tool development
- Strong Linux internals expertise including kernel tuning, storage stack performance, and containerization (Kubernetes/Docker)
- Ability to quickly master Hammerspace's Global Data Environment architecture
Required Professional Attributes:
- Strategic communicator who can move seamlessly from technical deep-dives to boardroom presentations
- Autonomous problem-solver thriving in undefined, high-stakes environments
- Opportunity hunter with ability to identify next-phase projects before customers do
- Empathy-driven approach to building trust and customer support
