Flexport is building a unified Supply Chain Operating System for global trade. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will embed directly with enterprise clients (Fortune 500 retailers, automotive manufacturers, tech giants) to solve high-stakes supply chain challenges at the intersection of full-stack software engineering, applied AI, operations research, and executive strategy. You will travel to client sites and logistics hubs to map end-to-end supply chain processes, audit legacy systems, and translate complex operational constraints into technical architectures. Your core responsibilities include designing and building production solutions spanning customer applications, internal tools, APIs, data pipelines, and workflow automations that connect to enterprise ERPs (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite), WMS, and TMS systems. A significant portion of your work involves building applied AI solutions—designing and shipping production-grade AI applications, agentic LLM workflows, and decision engines. You will also apply optimization algorithms and analytical methods to real-world logistics challenges including routing, mode selection, inventory positioning, container utilization, and exception prioritization. You will own 90-day sprint lifecycles, driving high-velocity deployments from discovery and architecture through live production, operator adoption, and ROI measurement. You'll partner with Flexport's core Product and Platform Engineering teams to productize field-tested client builds into reusable platform capabilities. Working side-by-side with frontline logistics teams at ports and cross-docks, you'll validate code in live operational workflows, train users, and ensure lasting adoption. You will communicate technical trade-offs, system architecture, and financial outcomes directly to client technical leaders and C-suite executives. Required: BA/BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or related field. 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building customer-facing or mission-critical applications (Python, TypeScript/React, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, relational databases, event-driven architectures). Demonstrated ability to build and integrate AI/ML solutions (LLM orchestration, agentic workflows, machine learning models, mathematical optimization solvers). Strong skills in data modeling, pipeline transformations (ETL), API integrations, and event-driven workflows across complex enterprise architectures. Passion for on-site work, whiteboarding with executives, and building trust with technical and business teams. Systems thinking, high autonomy, and bias for action.
