Clara is a fast-growing fintech company in Latin America providing payment solutions, corporate cards, bill pay, and financing for over 20,000 businesses. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Kaszek, Monashees, Coatue, and General Catalyst.
As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of product engineering and go-to-market, embedded directly with partners and customers to ship integrations rapidly. You'll own the complete integration lifecycle from qualification through handoff, acting as the primary technical owner for every integration in your portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the full integration lifecycle: qualification, scoping, build, and handoff for partners and customers requiring hands-on delivery support
- Running Phase 0 qualification assessments to map systems, data flows, risk surfaces, and build approaches
- Building and configuring integration connectors, data mappings, and partner adapters using Clara's integration framework
- Serving as the primary technical point of contact with partner technical teams throughout the build
- Partnering with Platform/API squads to leverage core primitives and identify reuse opportunities
- Ensuring integrations meet Clara's standards: idempotency, observability, secrets management, data minimization, and sandbox testing
- Driving clean handoffs with runbooks, dashboards, on-call assignments, and support playbooks
- Feeding learnings back into the platform to identify patterns that should become shared libraries
Required qualifications:
- 4+ years of backend software development experience with hands-on API integrations, webhooks, and data mapping
- Deep fluency in integration patterns: REST, event-driven architectures, OAuth/token management, idempotency
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (preferably Java) with comfort across multiple tech stacks
- Working knowledge of observability fundamentals: logs, metrics, tracing, alerting, and SLOs
- Experience working directly with external partners or customers in a technical capacity
- Ability to move fast in ambiguous environments: qualify, scope, and start building within days
- Working proficiency in English and Spanish, or English and Portuguese
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Exposure to integration platforms or connector frameworks (N8N, Zapier, or custom-built equivalents)
- Comfort using AI tools as a force multiplier
Nice-to-have qualifications include fintech/payments experience, PCI/PII compliance familiarity, AWS/Kafka experience, and proficiency in all three languages (Portuguese, Spanish, English).
