Thought Machine is building modern banking technology to replace legacy systems at financial institutions worldwide. As a Forward Deployed Engineer - Infrastructure, you will be Thought Machine's primary technical interface with clients, embedding directly within their engineering teams to design, build, and deliver production-ready implementations of Vault and associated banking products. You will work end-to-end across the full project lifecycle—from presales through production at scale—ensuring requirements are implemented, tested, and refined based on client feedback.
Key responsibilities include:
- Hands-on cloud infrastructure consulting both on-site and remotely
- Designing and preparing suitable cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for Thought Machine Vault deployments, including planning for high availability, disaster recovery, backup, redundancy, capacity, and security
- Deploying and configuring Vault products on client, SaaS, and internal cloud infrastructure
- Developing deep expertise in cloud infrastructure optimization and advising clients on holistic digital transformation
- Supporting and troubleshooting infrastructure issues both remotely and on-site, including deploying monitoring, logging, and alerting tools
- Collaborating with internal product and engineering teams to incorporate client feedback into product improvements
- Supporting the commercial team and cloud provider partners during presales
- Expected to travel to client sites up to 25% of the time and work autonomously in complex environments
REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
- Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Hands-on experience with some or all of: Linux/Unix administration (Ubuntu, Debian), Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Istio
- Experience with automation/configuration management tools (Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
- Experience with AWS or GCP
Desirable:
- AWS, GCP, or Azure certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, Professional Cloud Architect, or Solutions Architect Expert)
- Enterprise secrets management systems (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager)
- Production support experience for mission-critical systems at tier-1 financial institutions
- Hybrid cloud technologies (OpenShift, Google Anthos, AWS EKS Anywhere, AWS Outposts)
- Strong background in Go, Python, or Java
- Experience with CockroachDB, AlloyDB, or Aurora
- Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
