Vercel is seeking a Forward-Deployed Engineer to join its Professional Services team. This role embeds directly with strategic enterprise customers to drive transformational outcomes across frontend modernization, platform migrations, and AI adoption.
You will lead complex Next.js migrations, architect high-performance applications, and build production AI solutions within customer environments. Working hands-on-keyboard alongside customer engineering teams, you'll handle legacy React-to-Next.js migrations, conduct deep-dive code audits, deploy production agents using Vercel's AI SDK, and optimize rendering strategies and agentic workflows.
Key responsibilities include: leading complex frontend migrations (Pages to App Router, incremental adoption, large-scale transformations); conducting technical assessments and code audits to identify performance bottlenecks and architectural anti-patterns; architecting high-performance Next.js applications using App Router, Server Components, streaming, ISR, and edge functions; optimizing Core Web Vitals using Vercel Speed Insights; building production AI solutions including conversational interfaces and MCP servers; embedding with strategic customers to ship TypeScript code; driving enablement through workshops and pair programming; navigating complex enterprise stakeholder environments; participating in pre-sales discovery and scoping; and contributing insights back to product and engineering teams.
You'll operate with high agency and autonomy, navigating ambiguous enterprise environments, assessing technical debt, designing migration strategies, and delivering measurable business value. The role reports to the Director of Professional Services and is remote-first with significant travel (25-40%) to customer sites for embedded engagements.
