VAST Data is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as a core member of the engineering team embedded directly within strategic, large-scale customer environments. In this role, you will work side-by-side with customer architects, operators, and developers to understand their unique scale challenges, solve complex infrastructure issues, and translate real-world requirements into core product improvements.
Your responsibilities include collaborating globally with the engineering team to track hotfixes, review roadmap updates, and test new builds. You will co-engineer solutions with customers' technical teams to optimize infrastructure throughput, debug complex issues, and develop solutions for their largest workloads. A key part of the role is driving product development by weaving real-world operational insights directly into VAST's development loop—taking complex challenges solved with customer engineers and distilling them into precise, executable technical requirements for core development teams.
You will write code to develop custom API endpoints, create automation tools, and write scripts to unblock critical customer workflows. You'll address code review feedback from internal engineering teams on more complex changes. As the face of VAST Engineering on the ground, you own the technical success of strategic customer deployments from design through production operation. You will also act as a fierce internal advocate for your customer, ensuring their long-term technical needs are prioritized in the VAST product roadmap.
This role requires deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to bridge customer needs with internal product development. You should be comfortable working in customer environments, managing ambiguity, and driving solutions in complex, large-scale infrastructure contexts.
