Sakana AI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to solve individual customer business challenges using the company's AI technology, LLMs, and AI agents. The FDE embeds with customers to deeply understand their business, identify constraints, and propose and execute solutions that deliver maximum impact.
Key responsibilities include:
**Business Problem Structuring & Definition**: Conduct customer interviews and deep-dive problem discovery. Transform ambiguous business challenges into AI-solvable forms. Prioritize problems, define scope, and design success metrics (KPIs) in alignment with customers.
**Context Engineering**: Design and tune prompts optimized for specific workflows. Build and design RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines. Design and implement AI agent workflows. Structure and preprocess business data and knowledge. Establish quality evaluation and continuous improvement cycles.
**Solution Development**: Design and implement AI applications based on customer requirements. Architect integrations with existing business systems and data sources. Implement fact-checking and hallucination mitigation. Design user interfaces and workflows. Build prototypes and incorporate customer feedback.
**Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement**: Build and evaluate domain-specific benchmarks. Monitor and continuously improve accuracy and quality. Identify and address edge cases and failure patterns. Implement improvements based on customer feedback.
**Customer & Team Collaboration**: Maintain close communication with customer business teams and subject matter experts. Provide technical feedback and research themes to the ARE team. Communicate deployment and operational requirements to the SE team. Manage project progress and stakeholder reporting.
Required qualifications: Hands-on experience with data science and machine learning projects. Experience developing applications using LLMs and generative AI. Python development experience (data processing, API building, etc.). Experience with requirements definition and problem discovery. Track record of solving business challenges technically. Native-level Japanese (customer-facing business negotiations required).
Desired qualifications: Client-facing data science experience. Customer-facing solution development at AI companies. Banking, securities, or insurance industry experience. RAG, AI agent, and multi-agent system development. Deep expertise in prompt engineering and context engineering. Business-level English (advantageous for research team collaboration). Project management or team leadership experience.
