ReadMe is a developer documentation platform used by over 5,000 leading startups and tech companies to build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. The Forward Deployed Engineer role is a hybrid of customer success, technical implementation, and account management—perfect for someone who is technical enough to work in a customer's codebase and documentation, curious enough to become the deepest product expert in the room, and wants to own the customer relationship at a fast-moving startup. You will own a book of enterprise accounts end to end, from onboarding through adoption, renewal, and expansion. You'll be on customer calls regularly—implementation kickoffs, working sessions, quarterly business reviews, and escalations—serving as the primary technical and strategic contact for each account. This is a customer-facing role, not a ticket-queue role. Key responsibilities include: - Acting as the product subject matter expert for your accounts, answering product questions in real time and debugging alongside customers when issues arise. - Getting hands-on with technical implementation: reviewing OpenAPI specification files, helping wire up CI/CD syncing via the ReadMe CLI or API, troubleshooting custom JavaScript/CSS and authentication setups, and prototyping solutions before handing off to Engineering. - Building AI into your workflow—using AI tools to draft implementation plans, analyze account health, triage and summarize customer requests, prototype scripts, and automate repetitive work so you spend more time solving real problems. - Identifying expansion and growth opportunities across your book and partnering with Sales to close them. - Advocating for customers internally, surfacing health risks early, and feeding structured product and bug feedback to Product and Engineering. Within one month, you'll learn the ReadMe product, develop relationships with your enterprise customers, sit in on customer calls, and complete a hands-on ReadMe build. Within three months, you'll be the first line of technical resolution for your accounts and will have built at least one AI-assisted workflow that saves meaningful time. Within six months, you'll be performing to role KPIs (time to implementation, NPS scores, net revenue retention) and consulting on how to position the roadmap for the enterprise experience. ReadMe is backed by Accel and maintains a small, human-centered team culture. The company is committed to diversity and inclusion. REQUIREMENTS: - Technical foundation: able to read an OpenAPI spec, work with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, understand SSO and authentication flows, and use Git and command-line interfaces comfortably. You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be able to hold your own with one. - Passionate about working with others and collaborating across Sales, Product, Support, and Engineering teams. - Outstanding communicator, very organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Proven problem-solver who prefers to figure out answers rather than escalate. - Active user of AI as a working tool—you've built prompts, workflows, or small automations that changed how you work, and you're eager to continue doing so.
