P-1 AI is building Archie, an AI engineer agent for the physical world designed to operate as a junior mechanical and electrical engineer within existing engineering teams. The company recently closed a $50M Series A led by NEA, with board additions including former GE CEO Jeff Immelt and AI leaders from Anthropic and Nominal. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead for customer deployments, responsible for end-to-end AI solution design, implementation, and production support. Your responsibilities include leading customer discovery sessions to translate engineering challenges into AI use cases, designing Archie integrations into customer workflows, and providing post-deployment support. Day-to-day work involves designing and implementing customer integrations by connecting Archie to engineering data sources and tools, fine-tuning and evaluating AI systems in production environments using customer data, and collaborating with subject matter experts and AI specialists to develop novel AI systems for critical engineering tasks. You will diagnose and resolve critical issues in live deployments, driving root-cause analysis and implementing durable improvements. Ideal candidates have experience shipping data-driven or AI systems to production (Python strongly preferred), a background in physical engineering (automotive, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, etc.), and the ability to rapidly build integrations between disparate customer systems. You should be comfortable working directly with customers and technical leaders, have experience integrating or extending AI systems (especially in engineering or scientific domains), and have delivered solutions in secure enterprise environments with hands-on production troubleshooting and incident response experience. The role is based in San Mateo, CA with flexibility for remote work (US/Canada) requiring one week per month on-site in the San Mateo office. Relocation support is available.
