Monk is an AI-native accounts receivable (AR) platform for B2B companies, helping businesses get paid faster. The company is rebuilding the broken AR stack—currently dominated by spreadsheets and decade-old software—with AI, speed, and craftsmanship. Monk already manages over $1B in accounts receivable and is backed by leading investors with founders who bring significant exit experience. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be part of the founding FDE team, embedding deeply with Monk's largest and most complex customers to solve their hardest revenue workflows end-to-end. You will work alongside implementation and core engineering post-deal to map customers' ERPs, collections, cash application, deductions, disputes, and operational constraints. You will augment and improve integrations and agentic workflows, stay close through launch and iteration, and turn learnings into reusable product capabilities and deployment patterns for scale. Key responsibilities: - Own technical outcomes from discovery through launch for complex customers. Define real workflows, success metrics, integration plans, and paths to measurable cash impact. - Ship production-grade integrations, internal tools, and agentic workflows across ERPs, payment systems, CRM, and finance operations. - Design, test, debug, and improve agent behavior across AR edge cases: collections, cash application, deductions, disputes, approvals, and escalation. Own observability, reliability, and human-in-the-loop controls. - Build systems around prospect workflows in accounts receivable and showcase how Monk fits into their daily operations. - Serve as the customer's technical partner, working directly with finance, operations, IT, and engineering leaders. Explain tradeoffs clearly, earn trust through execution, and transfer ownership for confident post-launch operation. The company emphasizes ownership and craft (shipping daily, obsessing over details, ensuring 12/10 outcomes), speed and urgency (acting this hour, not tomorrow), and radical clarity (reasoning from the same version of reality). You will work in-person in Flatiron, NYC, and have the opportunity to learn from experienced founders (25% of the team are 2nd-time founders) while building at the frontier of applied AI. REQUIREMENTS: - 3+ years shipping production full-stack products (this is an engineering role) - Deep full-stack TypeScript fluency - Experience with integrations, APIs, webhooks, queues/workflows, and debugging distributed production systems - Built AI-native systems in production, or have unusually strong instincts for evaluation, failure modes, tracing, latency/cost tradeoffs, and safe iteration - Comfortable moving between customer finance workflows and Monk's stack: Next.js/React, Hono services, Postgres, Redis/BullMQ, Restate workflows, AI SDK/OpenAI, and MCP-based tooling - Customer-centric mindset; anticipate customer needs and position product capabilities accordingly - Owner mentality; figure out what needs to exist and build it autonomously - AI-native; leverage AI across all aspects of work - Comfortable with ambiguity and non-deterministic systems; unafraid to build and iterate on high-stakes agentic products - Excited to work in-person in Flatiron, NYC
