Loadsmart is a unicorn-valued logistics technology platform that uses AI and automation to help shippers, brokers, warehouses, and carriers optimize freight movement. The company is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join the R&D team and serve as a bridge between cutting-edge AI/ML systems and real-world operational impact. In this role, you will be responsible for taking AI agents and workflows—built on Loadsmart's brokerage, dock scheduling, and shipper platforms—and making them work reliably in production environments. You'll work directly with specific teams and workflows, handling real-world edge cases that don't fit standard architectures. Your day-to-day work involves building integrations, tuning AI behavior, writing production code, and shipping working software quickly. You'll spend significant time with operations stakeholders, translating business needs into technical solutions. Rather than focusing purely on elegant architecture, you'll prioritize what actually works for the business. You'll also feed learnings from deployments back into the platform team, preventing duplicate work and accelerating future rollouts. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of AI/ML engineering and operational excellence. You'll need to be comfortable context-switching between deep technical work and stakeholder collaboration, and you'll travel up to 50% to client engagements and the Chicago headquarters. The role requires someone who is independent, proactive, technically sharp, and genuinely interested in solving logistics problems at scale.
