Hippocratic AI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as the technical owner for AI deployments on their agentic AI platform. This high-ownership role combines software engineering expertise with direct customer engagement in healthcare environments.
You will work closely with Deployment Strategists and healthcare customers to build production AI systems that directly impact clinical operations. The role requires strong Python development skills, hands-on experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangSmith), and deep understanding of modern LLM techniques including RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), prompt engineering, tool calling, and LLM-as-judge patterns.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing RAG pipelines that ground LLM responses in customer data, building tool-calling architectures and Model Context Protocol (MCP) connections for safe agent-system interaction, developing production Python code for reliable AI systems, setting up secure monitored production environments, and managing deployment and go-live activities. You will monitor deployed systems, respond to incidents, troubleshoot problems collaboratively with customers, and drive operational improvements.
Success means identifying customer challenges early through proactive monitoring, solving problems before they affect clinical operations, executing smooth deployments without surprises, and building customer confidence in the AI solution through technical partnership and clear communication.
Required qualifications: 3-5 years of software engineering experience with strong Python fundamentals and production software development background; hands-on experience with LLM frameworks and modern LLM development patterns; deep understanding of RAG, prompt engineering, tool calling, and related techniques; experience building integrations with APIs, databases, or enterprise systems; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from a top-ranked university.
Nice-to-have qualifications include Model Context Protocol (MCP) experience, healthcare IT background (EHR integrations, FHIR, HL7), production DevOps or infrastructure experience, and prior experience deploying AI systems in production.
