Forma.ai is a Series B startup transforming sales compensation design, management, and optimization. The company manages billions in annual commissions for enterprise leaders like Edmentum, Stryker, and Autodesk.
The Forward Deployed Engineer role sits at the intersection of software engineering, applied data science, and customer delivery. You will embed closely with the Revenue Optimization team and customers to build data-driven solutions for territory design, quota setting, market potential analysis, and seller performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner directly with Revenue Optimization leaders, analysts, and customers to understand objectives, data, and operational constraints
- Build and deploy Python-based models, simulations, reports, and recommendations for territory planning, quota design, and seller performance
- Own customer problems end-to-end: discovery, prototyping, validation, deployment, documentation, and adoption
- Navigate ambiguity, investigate issues deeply, and deliver reliable customer outcomes
- Identify repeatable patterns and transform successful customer-specific implementations into reusable components, workflows, and internal tools
- Ensure all solutions meet security, auditability, and customer-data requirements
Required qualifications:
- Strong professional experience using Python for data analysis, automation, applied data science, or backend development
- Proficiency with SQL and experience working with complex, incomplete, or unfamiliar customer datasets
- Hands-on experience with Python libraries (pandas, NumPy, SciPy, statsmodels, scikit-learn)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: modular design, testing, version control, code review, documentation
- Experience deploying analytical workflows, internal tools, data pipelines, or customer-specific applications
- Demonstrated ownership mindset and determination to solve difficult problems
- Bias toward action and ability to deliver results without perfectly defined requirements
- Strong communication skills for working with customers, executives, analysts, and engineers
- Ability to balance rapid delivery with maintainability, security, and long-term reuse
- Resilience and organization to manage multiple customer-facing workstreams with limited oversight
Nice-to-have experience includes sales planning, revenue operations, incentive compensation, territory design, quota setting, simulation, optimization, forecasting, geospatial analysis, or account scoring.
