Baselayer is rebuilding the identity and trust infrastructure layer for American business banking. The company has built the most complete business graph in America, fusing public records, IRS data, sanctions lists, and fraud telemetry from 2,200+ financial institutions to resolve any business and its human stakeholders in milliseconds. With 98% match rates achieved in under two years (versus legacy bureaus' 60% over 50 years), Baselayer is trusted by over 20% of US financial institutions including FIS, Rho, and Socure.
The Agentic Economy team is extending Baselayer's business graph into trust infrastructure for AI agent commerce. As agent transactions proliferate—opening accounts, buying services, moving money—counterparties need real-time verification of who they're dealing with. This team is building verifiable credentials binding agents to verified businesses and humans, a queryable registry for real-time verification, and APIs integrated into payment networks, platforms, and protocols where agent transactions occur.
As Forward Deployed Engineer, you are the engineering arm of this team: translating partner conversations into working software shipped to production. You'll own verification APIs, MCP servers, credential flows, demos, and reference implementations. When a payment network needs real-time counterparty verification in an agentic checkout, you build it—often within days. You'll participate in technical calls with partners, scope integrations on the spot, and work closely with core platform engineering while owning the last mile yourself.
Key responsibilities include shipping partner integrations from first call to production; building prototypes and demos for partner meetings and conferences on short notice; owning developer and agent-facing quality (API ergonomics, documentation, sample repos, sandbox environments); getting the MCP server listed and featured in agent builder directories; optimizing agent-facing experience (tool descriptions, response design, error handling); engaging in agent builder communities as a builder; translating partner constraints into specs for the core platform team; and feeding field learnings back into the product roadmap.
You'll need 5+ years shipping production software with strong TypeScript and/or Python; deep API design and integration experience (REST, webhooks, OAuth/JWT); direct customer or partner work experience; hands-on familiarity with the modern agent stack (MCP, LLM tool-calling, agent frameworks); ability to move from demo to working code in days and integrations to production in weeks; and comfort thriving in startup ambiguity with end-to-end ownership. Differentiators include prior MCP or agent framework experience, familiarity with verifiable credential standards (SD-JWT-VC, DIDs, HTTP message signatures) and identity infrastructure, and payments domain knowledge.
