Anduril Industries is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join the Air Defense Technical Operations team in Costa Mesa. This role involves deploying and supporting advanced air defense systems globally, working at the intersection of hardware, software, and networking in field environments. You will be responsible for executing technical operations on military air defense projects, including field maintenance, customer support, and training. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting complex hardware, software, and networking issues in unstructured field conditions; conducting incident response and root-cause analyses for defense systems; maintaining system availability and performance; supporting operational and logistical planning for deployments; and communicating technical status to internal and customer teams. The role requires climbing towers to install and maintain sensor equipment (cameras, radars, pan-tilt units), performing preventative maintenance on tower infrastructure (guy wires, anchors, lightning protection), and troubleshooting critical site infrastructure including generators, solar power systems, and hydraulic systems. You will travel extensively to remote regions worldwide for up to two months at a time (up to 80% annually) and must be willing to relocate to Costa Mesa if not already local. Required qualifications include 3+ years of problem-solving experience at the hardware-software-networking interface; ability to climb towers safely; strong mechanical aptitude; tower maintenance experience; ability to meet health/medical requirements per DFARS and DoD regulations; and eligibility for U.S. Top Secret/Secret clearance. Preferred qualifications include a B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or related field; Network+ and Linux+ certifications or equivalent; prior tower climbing certifications (OSHA 10/30); experience with fiber and RF systems; cable termination skills; ability to lift 50-70 lbs; experience with aerial lifts and forklifts; and prior military or overseas contracting experience.
