Toku is building a conversational AI agent platform designed to solve complex collection and billing problems for enterprise customers. We're seeking Forward Deployed Engineers / AI Engineers with a founder mentality—people who can understand real customer problems, build functional MVPs in weeks, and validate solutions directly with clients before scaling.
This role combines three critical dimensions: software engineering, product thinking, and direct customer engagement. You'll work on building products from zero, prioritizing effectively amid change, and experimenting to validate solutions rapidly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet regularly with customers to understand their processes, identify opportunities, and translate business needs into technical solutions
- Design, develop, and iterate conversational AI agent MVPs using AI technologies, validating hypotheses with customers in short cycles
- Build sustainable, scalable software on a common platform supporting multiple conversational solutions
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and other Product Engineers to define optimal technical and functional strategies
- Make technical decisions balancing execution velocity, scalability, and maintainability
- Actively participate in code reviews, architecture design, and continuous improvement of engineering practices
Required Qualifications:
- 4–6 years as a Software Engineer, actively involved in design, development, and deployment of software products
- Experience building high-scale B2B/B2C products used by large user or transaction volumes
- Active participation in feature definition and close collaboration with Product teams in agile contexts
- Proven ability designing scalable solutions and making technical trade-off decisions
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work in ambiguous contexts, prioritize autonomously, and transform open problems into concrete solutions
- Motivation to build AI-driven products
- Intermediate to fluent Spanish language skills for team communication and customer meetings
- Availability for hybrid work (50%) with in-office presence at São Paulo office
Desirable Experience:
- Developing LLM-based products, conversational agents, or AI systems
- Building products from early stages (0→1)
- Customer discovery or product conversation participation
- High-growth startups or large-scale tech companies
- Distributed systems, APIs, cloud architectures, or high-availability platforms
- Agile methodologies and multidisciplinary teams
