Datafold is a venture-backed software company that provides data engineering automation for large-scale data platform migrations. The company partners with leading platforms like Databricks and Snowflake to deliver complex migrations using proprietary AI technology, completing projects up to 6x faster than traditional alternatives.
As a Forward Deployed Data Engineer, you will own the end-to-end delivery of AI-automated data platform migration projects. This is a high-ownership, customer-facing role that combines data engineering expertise with project leadership and AI-powered automation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own 1–4 concurrent migration projects from scoping through planning, execution, and customer handoff
- Serve as the primary customer contact, running weekly check-ins, managing stakeholder expectations, and escalating risks early
- Configure Datafold's Migration Agent and oversee migration execution
- Partner with Datafold's engineering team to execute migrations
- Help refine and scale the product and delivery playbook as the team grows
You will leverage Datafold's proprietary AI tooling to plan and deliver migrations, effectively doing the work equivalent to a full consulting team. This role requires strong technical depth in the modern data stack combined with excellent communication and project management skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–6 years of experience in data consulting, professional services, or customer-facing data engineering roles
- Excellent communication skills, equally comfortable in executive check-ins and technical design sessions
- Strong grasp of the modern data stack: dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, orchestration tools, and major patterns (stored procedures, streaming, incremental processing)
- Extreme ownership mentality—identifying, surfacing, and fixing problems while rallying the team
- AI power user—using AI daily and continuously improving AI usage effectiveness
- Exposure to legacy data stack and patterns (ETL, stored procedures) and data platform migration projects is a strong plus
