Datafold is a venture-backed data engineering automation platform that delivers large-scale data platform migrations using proprietary AI technology. The company partners with leading platforms like Databricks and Snowflake to execute complex migrations 6x faster than traditional alternatives.
As a Forward Deployed Data Engineer, you will own the end-to-end delivery of AI-automated data platform migration projects. This is a high-ownership, customer-facing role that combines data engineering expertise with project leadership and AI tooling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning 1–4 concurrent migration projects from scoping through customer handoff
- Serving as the primary customer contact, running weekly check-ins and managing stakeholder expectations
- Configuring Datafold's Migration Agent and overseeing migration execution
- Partnering with Datafold's engineering team to execute migrations
- Refining and scaling the product and delivery playbook as the team grows
You'll leverage Datafold's proprietary AI tooling to deliver work equivalent to a full consulting team. The role requires strong communication skills, comfort moving between executive discussions and technical design sessions, and an extreme ownership mentality.
Required qualifications:
- 3–6 years in data consulting, professional services, or customer-facing data engineering
- Deep knowledge of the modern data stack: dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, orchestration tools, and key patterns (stored procedures, streaming, incremental processing)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Daily AI usage with continuous learning mindset
- Strong problem-identification and team-rallying skills
Preferred: exposure to legacy data stack patterns and prior data platform migration project experience.
